Are you confused between plain and printed curtains for your living room or bedroom spaces? Are you afraid that plain curtains can become boring, yet printed curtains can be too bold? Below is a brief look into the pros and cons of printed and plain curtains. Read on to know which ones will be the best for your home.

Intended look

The first thing to ask yourself before purchasing curtains is what kind of aura you want to create. Printed curtains have a more casual feel to them. They create a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Plain curtains, on the other hand, have a firm, more serious and formal look. Depending on the type of print, both plain and printed curtains can be made to be elegant. If you are the kind of person who has frequent business meetings either physically or via web in your living room, plain curtains might be the best for you. If you are an artist who enjoys colour and patterns, then printed curtains are your best option.

Maintenance

The advantage that printed curtains have over plain ones is that printed curtains do a good job of hiding dirt and stains. This is not to say that you should not take care of them by washing them regularly. Nevertheless, it is hard to notice dirt or stains on printed curtains as much as on plain curtains. Some stains may refuse to come out, and this may lead to the need of permanently discarding your plain curtains. Printed curtains may hide a stain so well that you may still be able to hang them up.

Matching

If you are a thrifter, then you must understand the struggle that comes with buying and matching curtains. Plain curtains have the advantage of being easy to match even when the separate pieces were bought from totally different locations. Plain curtains also allow you to do colour blocking and matching. However, printed curtains may require you to make them from one fabric in order to match them. Getting matching pieces from thrift shops and flea markets is hard tedious. You have to very specific about the pieces of print curtains you match otherwise you will end up with a confusing burst of colour in your house.

Aesthetics

In as much as plain coloured curtains can come in many colours, when correctly installed, printed curtains are more lively and pleasing to look at. They make the room come alive with their patterns and illustrations. They also make a room seem brighter even on a dull day.
